Our Mission
We believe that freedivers deserve better than marketing spin. Our mission is to provide:
- Independent, unbiased information about freediving in Melbourne
- Practical guides for beginners and experienced divers
- Information to help you choose courses and instructors wisely
- Resources for exploring Melbourne's incredible marine environments
What We Cover
Everything on this site is specific to Melbourne and Victoria. We maintain more than 60 local guides, including an interactive directory of Victorian dive sites, detailed guides to the Mornington Peninsula piers (Rye, Blairgowrie, Portsea and more), seasonal events like the giant spider crab migration, local marine life from weedy seadragons to Port Jackson sharks, and a comparison of every freediving school operating in Melbourne.
We also track safety: our Victorian freediving incident coverage exists because honest information about what goes wrong, and why, makes the sport safer for everyone in our cold, dark, wonderful water.
Part of Freediving For All
Freediving Melbourne is part of the Freediving For All network — an independent platform providing education, advocacy, and resources for freedivers worldwide.
Independence
We don't accept payment for recommendations. We don't use affiliate links. Our advice is based on what's best for freedivers, not what's best for our bank balance.
About the byline
This site is edited under the pen name Sterling Ward during active proceedings involving the editor. Identifying the parties to those proceedings would functionally identify the editor, so we describe the context in general terms and reserve specifics for post-litigation disclosure. Editorial independence, sourcing standards, and the corrections policy operate the same way under the pen name as they would under the real name. When the proceedings conclude, we will publish a transition note naming the editor; the pen-name byline history will remain intact.
